JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT FEATURES PAINTINGS OF ORANGE COUNTY ARTIST
Santa Ana - As part of its ongoing "Community Focus Space Gallery" exhibition featuring local Orange County artists, John Wayne Airport (JWA) presents artist Cheryl Bookout. On display through May 30, 2006, Bookout’s paintings of flying insects and their relationship to aviation and historic aircraft are located in Thomas F. Riley Terminal on the departure (upper) level in between the ticket counter areas and on the arrival (lower) level near baggage carousels 1 and 4.
A professional artist since 1987, Ms. Bookout became one of the first artists to establish a presence in what is now known as the Santa Ana Artists Village. Over the years, Ms. Bookout developed techniques in painting and installation art, often influenced by the Surrealists School of Art, where it is not unlikely for a fish to swim through the sky. This style is evident in her paintings on display at JWA.
"We are pleased to present Cheryl Bookout’s art work to the traveling public," said Airport Director Alan Murphy. "I hope that the art displays will enhance our passengers’ experience at John Wayne Airport."
Ms. Bookout, working studio artist and native of Southern California, currently resides in Joshua Tree, Calif.. She is a member of the Advisory Board for SCA Project Gallery in Pomona and the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art located in Santa Ana. Bookout is one of more than 70 artists featured since the inception of JWA’s Community Focus Space Gallery in 1996. To learn more about the artist, log on to www.jcbookout.com.
